BARTENDING 101 - AT HOME
Start With The Fundamentals🍹
Every bartender starts from the most basic essentials. Before we dive into worrying about impressive techniques or complicated recipes, it’s very important that we understand the basics of what bartending is all about. Learning how to properly stir, muddle, shake, cut ingredients, and even pour into our desired glass gives you a great foundation of what it takes to create consistent and tasty cocktails at home.

Bartending overall is both a craft and a skill. Although learning recipes can be a great starting point for making home cocktails, having a good understanding of why certain ingredients and techniques work so well together is what allows all bartenders (not just the at-home ones), to gain more confidence behind their bar. Memorization isn't the goal here, the goal is to understand the masterpieces behind the cocktails, so you can add your own personal mix in learning how to make cocktails at home. An even better bartender knows that you've got to seat the small stuff. The importance in the finer details of measuring ingredients for example, or measuring how much ice you use, or how long you stir or shake your cocktails for… even down to the specific glass you use to present and serve your drink, is what makes the difference between a good, and a great bartender. Having an eye for details is what turns the bartending experience from following instructions, to mastering the craft of cocktail creating.
"You don't need a professional bar to become a great bartender. You just need to believe in yourself and have a thirst to learn!
— Juan Posada, CEO
Following a great home bartending course like ours, can help get rid of all the guesswork you might have as you start your journey. Instead of scrolling through random videos on Youtube or looking up crazy recipes, having structured lessons from start to finish will allow you to build your skills while also understanding the main reasons behind each technique. The best part of it all is that your own kitchen can become your training ground to get started. Start with the essentials in our bartending course, practice mastering the techniques every chance you get, and gradually challenge yourself in creating amazing home cocktails. Maybe even name one after you! You will start to build confidence overtime, that creating drinks becomes more instinctively rather than following a recipe.
Preparing Your Bar 😉
Before starting your at-home bartending experience to make your perfect sip, it is very important that you prepare your bar, and that all of your ingredients are easily accessible. This helps create a smooth and seamless bartending experience, while being focused on creating your perfect sip. In every home bartending course, they start off by advising you to keep all of the necessary tools close by. Some basic tools include a shaker, bar spoon, strainer, muddler. Then, prepare any fresh ingredients that your cocktail may call for such as your citruses, garnishes, or herbs- preparing these ahead of time will save you lots of time and heart ache… trust me. You also want to make sure you have enough ice, maybe a little extra even, you never know. Lastly, having a very clean and organized bar and workspace is- and I cannot stress this enough- KEY to allowing yourself to master your techniques and create your perfect sip. When everything is clean and organized, you’ll save yourself from always wondering where everything is. The smoother, the better.
The first thing you should always be doing is preparing all your glasses. Depending on the type of cocktail you are making, you may want to prepare fresh ice, chill your glass, and possibly have a highball glass ready for a longer refreshing drink. Trust me, taking these baby steps are critical before your first pour as it can change your attitude for the rest of the time you are creating drinks. Having a prepared bar creates a smoother experience and just lets you have a great state of mind to create that perfect sip.
